The Tulsa Historical Society & Museum is wrapping up the first phase in some improvements to its gardens that will serve to better showcase and protect some of their most beloved occupants. The Five Moons — a group of bronze statues depicting five famous Native American ballerinas from Oklahoma — have been moved from their previous location, and now have a new home in the center of the gardens. "It's like they're taking center stage," said Daphne Dowdy, society director of development, adding that the statues are also getting new landscaping.
"The statues are also being raised 18 inches, so when the grasses come in in the spring it will look like the ballerinas are dancing on the grasses," Dowdy said. The improvements also include better security measures, she said. The society doesn't ever want a repeat of what happened previously, when the statue of ballerina Marjorie Tallchief was stolen and cut up for scrap.
It was replaced in 2023. People are also reading..
