Tropical wave expected to become depression over next week Facebook Twitter WhatsApp SMS Email Print Copy article link Save A low-pressure system in the Gulf of Mexico now has a high chance of forming into a tropical depression within the week, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. The tropical wave, which is over the southwestern edge of the Gulf of Mexico and bringing thunderstorms to the area, now has a 70% chance of becoming a tropical depression over the next seven days. Forecasters say they expect the low-pressure area to gradually develop late this weekend or early next week as the system moves eastward.
The Florida Peninsula and the Florida Keys should closely monitor the wave's development, the National Hurricane Center said. The storm doesn't post a current threat to southeastern Louisiana. Don't miss a storm update this hurricane season.
