Monday, October 7, 2024 Tripura’s tourism sector is poised for significant growth, with the government planning an investment of over Rs 500 crore within the next two years, as announced by Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Sunday. Similar to health and education, the Tripura government has recognized tourism as a key area for investment to drive economic development, capitalizing on the state’s distinctive landscapes, rich biodiversity, and favorable climate. A range of projects valued at Rs 250 crore has been proposed to the Ministry of Tourism for funding.

Approximately Rs 100 crore is earmarked for development in Udaipur’s Banduar area, located in the Gomati district, where a replica of the 51 Hindu Shakti Peeths is under construction. The state government is actively working to expand religious tourism; as part of the ‘Prasad’ project, the ‘Maata Tripura Sundari’ temple is undergoing renovations, with its inauguration planned for January next year. Additionally, the Unakoti Saivite site in Kailashahar has been shortlisted by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for preservation and protection.



An investment of Rs 69 crore has been allocated for upgrading and modernizing this significant site, which ranks second in size only to Mahabalipuram.
