The funeral details have been confirmed for a young Wicklow man who was found dead on a busy Galway road over the weekend as hundreds of tributes continue to pour in. Eric Byrne of Monastery Grove, Enniskerry, Co Wicklow , was discovered on the Headford Road area of Galway on Saturday, September 14. Gardaí are currently investigating ‘all circumstances’ as they await the post-mortem examination results.

Mr Byrne is survived by his parents, Karina and Steven, his sister Rachel and a wider circle of family and friends. His Rip.ie death notice reads: ‘Eric Byrne of Monastery Grove, Enniskerry, Co.



Wicklow. September 14, 2024, unexpectedly in Galway. Predeceased by his grandparents Peter and May Byrne (née Murphy).

‘Remembered with love by his heartbroken parents Karina and Steven, sister Rachel, sister-in-law Tanya and Bump, his three little sisters, Nanny Sarah Farrell, aunts and uncles Peter, Sabrina, Caroline, Jorge, Josephine, Sandra, Kim, Willie, Tina, Simon, John and Les, Godchildren Kyle, Lola and Ella, all his cousins, grand aunts, grand uncles, extended family, neighbours and his wide circle of friends.’ Tributes continue to flow for the ’round lovely lad’ who was understood to be living away from home at the time of his death. Friends and neighbours took to social media to pay tribute to the young man, branding him ‘a good friend to all’.

‘I have such fond memories of Eric,’ said one. ‘A true one-of-a-kind character that always managed to put a smile on everyone’s face. You will be sadly missed, brother.

’ Another penned: ‘The world has lost a great person. I have great memories of Eric growing up in Monastery. He will be sadly missed,’ while another added: ‘Another beautiful soul lost to this city.

Eric was the most genuine and caring person I have ever met, and I am honoured to have called him my brother.’ Mr Byrne will repose at his home, Monastery Grove, Eniskerry, on September 18, between 5 and 8 pm. He will leave his home on Thursday morning, September 19, at 11 am for a celebration of life ceremony at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, followed by burial in Kilternan Cemetary Park, Dublin 18.

His RIP.ie funeral notice confirmed: ‘Reposing at his home Wednesday evening (September 18) from 5 pm until 8 pm. The funeral cortège will leave Eric’s home on Thursday morning (September 19) at 11 am, walking to the entrance of Monastery Grove.

‘Followed by a Ceremony to celebrate Eric’s life at 11.30 am in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Enniskerry, Co Wicklow, after which Eric will be laid to rest in the family grave at Kilternan Cemetery Park, Ballycorus Road, Kilternan, Dublin 18.’ It is understood that Gardaí in Galway are investigating all circumstances around Mr Byrne’s death.
