TRENTON — Children everywhere are heading back to classes and some local folks are trying to give them some support to start the new school year off right. Naim Travis Founder of Mr. Travis LLC is hosting his first Give Back event to help celebrate the return to school.

Travis said The Give Back is intended to be an annual event, bringing much-needed supplies and fun in trying economic times. Students will be able to get backpacks, school supplies, haircuts, face painting, ice cream, and more at Roger Gardens Apartments at 519 Hoffman Ave. in Trenton.

The event takes place Sunday Sept. 1, from 1 to 3 p.m.

All of the supplies were purchased through Mr. Travis LLC and Yogi Boyz Entertainment, companies owned by Travis. But he has some support from his barber Kee Langston, CEO of Kee’s Luxury Kutz, Face Painting by Tee of Creative Expressions, Ice Cream by Mister Softee, and more.

Having grown up in the neighborhood, Travis said he wanted to give back right in West Trenton. He’s working on supporting people and always giving back, having organized food drives during the COVID pandemic, helped with community cleanups, advocated for causes fighting crime and gang activity, and being a strong supporter for mental health. “My religion is the inspiration behind everything,” Travis told The Trentonian.

“Being a Muslim giving back and feeding the less fortunate are mandatory. While I’m not perfect, Islam is. Alhamdulillah.
