Wednesday, August 21, 2024 The Maldives has welcomed over 1.3 million tourists so far this year, according to the latest data from the Tourism Ministry. As of Monday, 1,304,235 tourists have visited the island nation, surpassing the 1.

2 million arrivals recorded during the same period last year. China has emerged as the leading source of tourists to the Maldives in 2024, followed by Russia and the United Kingdom. Notably, India, which held the top spot as the largest source market for the past three years, has now slipped to the sixth position, with 77,326 Indian tourists visiting the Maldives this year.



This is a significant drop from the 209,198 Indian visitors recorded last year. The Tourism Ministry also reported that tourists spend an average of 7.7 days in the Maldives.

Currently, the country offers 62,740 beds for tourism accommodations. The government has set an ambitious goal of reaching 2 million tourist arrivals by the end of the year..
