Monday, December 16, 2024 Tourism Authority of Thailand supports the 30+ Island Clean-Up to restore marine ecosystems, empower communities, and advance sustainable tourism across Thai coasts. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced its support for the “30+ Islands Clean-Up: So Cool Mission,” a groundbreaking effort spearheaded by the Thailand Sustainable Islands Alliance (TSIA) to promote sustainable tourism and environmental conservation. Taking place on June 8-9, 2025, in Ko Chang, Trat Province, this large-scale clean-up coincides with World Oceans Day and the 3rd Thailand Sustainable Island Tourism Symposium.

Volunteers and local island communities will join forces to clear marine debris from over 33 islands, including beaches, mangroves, and coral reefs located along Thailand’s Eastern, Gulf, and Andaman coastlines. Prominent islands such as Ko Chang, Ko Kut, Ko Samui, Ko Tao, Ko Lanta, Ko Lipe, and Phuket are key focal points of this campaign. The initiative aims to empower communities by encouraging sustainable waste management practices, transforming marine debris into valuable resources through recycling programs and fair-trade solutions.

The campaign was officially launched on December 4, 2024, at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Thailand (FCCT) in Bangkok. During the event, leading experts and stakeholders shed light on the urgent need to address marine debris and its impact on island ecosystems. Dr.

Wijarn Simachaya, Director of the Thaila.
