Vadodara: Heavy rain in central Gujarat caused flooding in Dahod town , even as water was released from the Dev dam in Panchmahal district. Villages in Panchmahal and Vadodara districts were put on alert due to water being released from the dam. Dahod taluka received 72mm of rain in six hours on Saturday, leaving Dahod town badly waterlogged.

The state transport bus depot was also waterlogged. Elsewhere in Dahod district, Limkheda taluka received 60mm of rain and Garbada taluka 58mm. Other talukas in the district, except Sanjeli, also received rain.



The brunt of the downpour came between 2pm and 8pm. Temple town Dakor, which is preparing for Janmashtami celebrations, was heavily waterlogged due to continuous downpour. Vehicles were seen stranded in knee-deep waters and shopkeepers removing water that gushed into their premises.

Heavy rain lashed parts of north Gujarat on Saturday, inundating low-lying areas and blocking state highways and roads connecting villages. Officials said water levels had reached above the danger mark in 66 of the 206 reservoirs in the state. Vijapur taluka of Mehsana district received 205mm of rain between 6am and 10am on Saturday, throwing life out of gear.

The APMC campus was flooded and a 250-foot portion of a 300-foot wall behind it collapsed. No casualties were reported. Six state highways and 36 panchayat roads were flooded, the govt said in a bulletin.

Water was released from Dev dam in Halol taluka of Panchmahal district on Saturday. Seven villages in Halol taluka were hence put on alert. In Vadodara district, seven villages in Dabhoi taluka and 19 in Waghodia taluka were also put on alert.

According to the district administration, the water level in the Dev dam was at 88.39m and needed to be maintained at 88.15m, due to which it was decided to release water.

Outflow was 645 cusecs on Saturday evening. In Panchmahal district, the most rain fell in Morva (Hadaf), 44mm. It was followed by Jambughoda (36mm).

The other talukas of the district also received significant rain through the day. Khanpur taluka in Mahisagar district was battered by 87mm on Saturday. It was followed by Virpur taluka with 66mm of rain while Balasinor taluka got 49mm of rain.
