Monday, January 27, 2025 In 2024, Toronto experienced its highest ever recorded level of visitor spending, with $8.8 billion injected into the city’s economy. This increase in tourism was driven by nearly 9 million overnight visitors, which marked a significant recovery since the pandemic.

However, despite this strong performance, Toronto still welcomed 600,000 fewer visitors compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019. Strong Domestic Recovery with International Growth Toronto’s domestic tourism market has almost fully recovered to pre-pandemic levels, with locals contributing significantly to the visitor numbers. However, international travel is also steadily growing, with 2.



7 million international visitors arriving in 2024, marking a 7% increase over the previous year. These international travelers, particularly from key regions such as the U.S.

, the U.K., and Germany, made up 30% of total visitors, contributing to 38% of all visitor spending in the city.

The growth of international tourism is expected to have a lasting impact on Toronto’s economy. International visitors tend to stay longer and spend more, making their contributions far more valuable than domestic travelers. This trend is expected to continue into the future, as Toronto remains an appealing destination for global tourists.
