But now, a top doctor has revealed if the dinnertime favorite is actually behind the surge of early-onset colon cancer , considered cancer before the age of 50.

Dr Peter Attia, a Canadian-American longevity physician, appeared on British podcast TRIGGERnometry to discuss the role of diet on chronic diseases. Red meat has been at the center of heaps of research investigating a potential link between the food and colon cancer. And the US government has even proposed recommendations that Americans limit red meat and add more plant proteins and leaner options like chicken to their diets.



Several recent studies have suggested red meat can increase colon cancer risk due to its high levels of saturated fat. Additionally, experts have theorized digesting red meat creates harmful chemicals that attack cells lining the colon. However, Dr Attia dubbed many of the recent reports on red meat and colon cancer 'really, really bad science' that are 'fraught with errors.
