This seismic event occurred just one day after authorities issued an unprecedented advisory concerning the potential for a significant earthquake along Japan’s Pacific shoreline.

Authorities activated an emergency alert for a potent earthquake affecting Tokyo and the prefectures of Kanagawa, Saitama, Yamanashi, and Shizuoka, though there was no accompanying tsunami warning.
