I started with 'NIGHT' and when I saw all the grey letters I thought I was doomed. Well, luckily, my next guess 'WHALE' gave me some hope. I followed it with 'CHASE', which answered a couple of questions I had.

Today's Wordle etymology The history of the word 'BRACE' goes all the way back to the Greeks, where we find the word 'BRAKHION', which means an arm. This word has probably been taken by Latin since we have the Latin term 'BRACCHIA' for an arm as well as a forearm.

Later, we find the word 'BRACE' in Old French, from where the English version has come. It's only around the 1500s that the sense of something which holds two or more things together is tied to the word 'BRACE'. Around the same time, we find the term being employed as a synonym for prop.
