Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch recently arrested a 34-year-old chain snatcher from Shrirampur in Ahmednagar district and his mother-in-law from Shivajinagar following a tip-off . The action came after the woman went to Nigdi to sell gold chains that they robbed. With the arrest, a crime branch team led by inspector Jitendra Kadam solved seven cases of chain snatching and a vehicle theft.

The team also recovered gold jewellery worth Rs 9 lakh from the possession of the suspect, Sadiq Irani and his mother-in-law from Shivajinagar. Kadam said Irani is a criminal on the police records and has 20 cases of chain snatching and stealing gold jewellery by posing as police officer. He said police sub-inspector Shivanand Swami received a tip-off that robbers involved in chain snatching would be coming to Nigdi.



"We laid a trap recently and took Irani into custody along with his mother-in-law. We arrested the woman because she kept robbed chains with her," Kadam said, adding that, "We have also recovered a stolen motorcycle from them." Ktaka native held for chain snatch in Goa Calangute police arrested Azeez Asif, 32, from Tumakuru, Karnataka, for allegedly targeting tourists by snatching their valuables over the past few days. Asif, a habitual offender, was wanted in five snatching cases and has been involved in more than 20 theft cases across Goa and Karnataka. He was previously arrested in 2019 and 2021.
