PAPUA Junior Squash athlete Timonaliz Alarcos Kriebisch is now ranked 1 in the under-13 girls’ squash in Australia, following her victory that unseeded Cleo Poulava during the 2024 Australian Junior Championships in Sydney. Poulava (seeded 1) and Kriebisch (seeded 2) battled it out in the final, which saw Kriebisch claim three sets (11-2, 11-9, 11-5) in a convincing fashion at the Thornleigh Squash Centre. PNG Squash Raquets Federation President Anna Togolo expressed how incredibly proud she is of Timonaliz and her efforts in the past two years since she moved to Daisy Hill Squash Club.
“Thank you to coach Bradley Hindle and team. Her family and friends who provide an important support base that all elite athletes need. We are looking forward to seeing Timonaliz representing team PNG on the squash courts in the years to come.
” Lady Anna told this paper that the individual competitions that began on September 28 and ended October 1 (yesterday), is the first time for a PNG Junior to win a final, as it is a top competition for junior squash athletes residing in Australia, and you have to be a resident to qualify to compete. Mum, Merlyn Alarcos-Kriebisch expressed how proud they are of Timonaliz’s achievement. “As parents, we are very happy her commitment and hard work is coming together.
