Season tickets are available for Southern Jaguars Men’s and Women’s Basketball as both teams look to contend for SWAC conference titles and postseason play. The Women’s team has nine new players, including six transfers, said Head Coach Carlos Funchess. They won’t shy away from big-time competition, with several games scheduled against Power Four schools, many of whom will visit the Mini-Dome on the Southern campus.
“Ten of our first 12 games are against elite competition,” Coach Funchess said. “You cannot beat them if you don’t play them. The young ladies like those challenges, and it’s a chance for us to get ready for our conference season.
” The Women’s team was recently voted second in the SWAC preseason rankings, as voted on by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors. Coach Funchess said he is especially excited about the depth at all positions. “We’re going to use that to our advantage.
