Dillon Town Manager Nathan Johnson and Mayor Carolyn Skowyra met with representatives of Arapahoe Cafe & Pub on Sept. 19, 2023, days after the longtime small business announced it would be closing its doors next month. Skowyra, responding to concerns from Dillon residents who spoke during public comment, said the town is aware of the “ripple effects” businesses are feeling as developer Jake Porritt has pitched a luxury hotel where the Best Western Ptarmigan Lodge now stands .

Summit County Airbnb hosts made $14.6 million in total 2019 summer income, based on booking data from the company for May 24 through Sept.

2, 2019. Total summer 2019 guest arrivals amounted to 88,700. Breckenridge was listed as the third most popular destination for Airbnb guests to stay in Colorado.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife started experimenting with a new surveying method called hair snares in 2009, which allow researchers to collect small amounts of bear hair, which is then sent off for DNA analysis.

Researchers found that in every study across the state, in habitats that ranged from good to poor quality for bears, the bear population was double the numbers wildlife managers had been using before. — From the Sept. 19, 2014, edition of the Summit Daily News Local resorts and towns aren’t alone in feeling the pinch when it comes to tourism.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce recently announced that the number of overseas visitors to the U.

S. dropped about 10% in the first half of 2009 compared to the same span last year. Internationally, the number of visitors to the world’s top 50 tourist destinations was down about 8% for the first half of 2009, according to the World Tourism Organization.

The organization expects worldwide tourism to decline by about 2% to 3% during 2009. The reports from Summit County have been similar. Both Frisco and Summit County have seen sales tax revenue declines of about 15% in month-to-month comparisons between 2009 and 2008.

Late that morning a Dillon resident told police he approached two men driving a vehicle with Kansas license plates after they allegedly flicked their cigarette butts out the car window. The two men stepped out of the car and a fight ensued. The men leveled various accusations of shoving, “chest butting,” slapping and nose biting in their statements to Frisco police.

All three men were taken to the Frisco Police Station, where they were issued summons for disorderly conduct and released. — From the Sept. 21, 1994, edition of the Summit Daily News Plenty were on hand at the Grand Army Hall on Sept.

20, 1899, as the Pioneer Hook and Ladder Co. put on a celebration to honor the Summit County boys who responded to their country’s call for “stalwart sons to defend the nation’s honor and protect and spread the national emblem — “Liberty!” While Summit County sent several men to Fort Hancock, New Jersey, only two saw actual service. William Lindsey, of Kokomo, served in the Philippines and was buried at sea.

Breckenridge’s Richard L. Low, who is a member of the Pioneer Hook and Ladder Co., was able to return home without a scratch and was the guest of honor at the banquet.
