Things look a lot different at the historic Water Valley Inn building in Hamburg. The exterior is painted blue. The interior is a modern, creamy beige with lots of natural light and dark wood.

Then there's the food. A look inside the dining area at Ladybird Deli + Bakery in Hamburg. Ladybird Deli + Bakery (6656 Gowanda State Road, Hamburg) serves healthy breakfast and lunch options including a ricotta toast with dried cherries, honeynut squash and pepitas, and a harvest salad loaded with fennel, manchego, spiced tofu and almonds.



Espresso drinks are made with coffee beans roasted by Tipico Coffee specifically for Ladybird. All of the baked goods including sourdough bread and croissants are baked on-site, as is a Polish cheesecake that follows chef Ross Warhol's grandmother's recipe. Drinks include alcoholic options, such as canned cocktails, Wayland beer, wine and mimosas.

"It's really encapsulating how I grew up eating," Warhol said. "My grandmother, Helen Warhol, she was very focused on fresh ingredients and really bringing a homey comfort sense through her cooking." There is no table service; everything is ordered at the counter.

With 40 seats, and plenty of outlets, the restaurant can handle a crowd of diners and lurkers with laptops. Breakfast is served from 7 a.m.

to noon, with lunch from noon to 3 p.m. It's open Wednesday through Sunday.
