It’s not unheard of for women to have honed in on the designer for their wedding outfit long before a potential groom even enters the picture. Gastroenterologist Annie Shergill was no different. Even though she met her husband, lawyer-turned-real estate investor Ricky Gill, through a mutual friend only two years ago, she had known she would wear Anamika Khanna for all her wedding events for a decade.
And she had magazine cut-outs of Khanna’s collections from twelve years ago to prove this. “I have admired her craft for several years now, and am fortunate to own many pieces by Anamika [Khanna] too. There was no question that I would wear her creations for all my wedding functions,” says Shergill, who worked closely with bridal stylist Tanya Vohra of Clad to bring this vision to life.
“We created mood boards which drew inspiration from Anamika’s work dating back to almost 10-15 years. I am told some of the detailing even took Anamika by surprise,” laughs the bride. For their wedding this March, Shergill and Gill wanted to honour their Punjabi roots, but also wanted to pay tribute to their love for high American culture from an era gone by.
They were able to combine these distinct inspirations with a three-day wedding at Biltmore Hotel Miami Coral Gables, which is also a national historic landmark. While the groom mixed it up with brands ranging from Armani and Tom Ford to Rajesh Pratap Singh, the bride wore Anamika Khanna for all six events, which were customised .
