Thiruvananthapuram: The Thiruvananthapuram – Kannur Jan Shatabdi will get brand new Link Hofman Bush (LHB) coaches as an Onam gift from the railways. LHB coaches are stainless steel coaches built using German technology. The new coaches will be introduced from September 29 onwards on the train from Thiruvananthapuram and from September 30 on the service running from Kannur.
Passengers have been demanding that the coaches in Jan Shatabdi be replaced for ages. However, their request to make Kannur Jan Shatabdi a daily service remains unfulfilled. Meanwhile, the railway is also considering replacing Thiruvananthapuram – Kozhikode Jan Shatabdi's old coaches and Ernakulam – Bengaluru Intercity.
Besides, rail passengers have been urging the railways to allow new coaches for Malabar, Maveli and Parasuram express trains..
