Boats are decked out in team colors for the Bills Mafia Boat Parade that returns on Sept. 1 along the Buffalo River. Here's a look at some of the events happening this weekend.

Mafia Boat Parade. Noon to 3:30 p.m.



Sunday, Sept. 1 along the Buffalo River at Canalside. Don your finest Buffalo Bills garb, sit back and enjoy the parade from a spot at Canalside where you can watch boats, also decked out in Bills colors, following a route down the Buffalo River.

Listen for the foghorn that will signal the start of the parade. The event was organized by Buffalo Bills fans in support of local charities, including Oishei Children's Hospital. This year, it is supporting the Firefighter Arno Memorial Fund.

As the organizers say, the Mafia Boat Parade is "a celebration of the Bills 2024 season, a gathering of Bills fans, and giving back to Buffalo." For the watch party at Canalside, there will be food trucks, vendors, music and a beer garden. Buffalo German Fest.

5:30 to 10 p.m. Friday, Aug.

30 and noon to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug.

31 at Cheektowaga Town Park, 2600 Harlem Road, Cheektowaga. Kick off Oktoberfest in August at this event celebrating all things German. (Where else would you find a sauerkraut-eating contest?) Started in 1982, the festival has been keeping cultural traditions alive through authentic music, dance, food, drink and literature.

The German American Musicians perform on Friday. On Saturday, the Polka Boyz play from 1 to 4 p.m.
