A thief has stolen thousands of pounds in valuable items from a home in Chelsea, including a number of handbags that are worth up to £26,000 each. The Metropolitan Police have said that on Sunday, July 20, two men broke into a house in Smith Street where they stole "a number of items." This included several Hermes Birkin bags, which are incredibly valuable.

These bags are virtually impossible to buy brand new, and often can only be purchased second hand. Even then, pre-loved Birkin bags can retail for up to around £26,000, or $35,000, depending on their condition, luxury auctioneers Sotheby's says . Now, the police have released an image of a man they want to speak to in relation to the robbery.

An image, taken from a CCTV camera, is of a Black man wearing a white shirt and a navy gilet. The police say the man was seen on Smith Street that day at around 8.30pm, and it was later that evening that two men broke into the house to steal the bags.

Currently, no arrests have been made regarding this incident. However, the police say enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing. The Met Police say: "Anyone who recognises this man, or who has information that could assist police, is asked to call 101 or ‘X’ @MetCC and quote 01/620918/24.

You can also provide information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111." Got a story for us? Email anna.willis@reachplc.
