New Orleans holds a festival, it seems, every week since city residents love celebrations especially if they involve music and food. And that explains why a crowd gathered in Louis Armstrong Park in early November for the Tremé Creole Gumbo Festival .

Since it was sponsored by the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation, a lineup of musicians also held court on the stage while lines formed at local restaurants’ stands dishing out the classic spicy soup/stew with chicken and sausage or seafood, fried chicken wings, jambalaya, shrimp & grits, po-boys, Crawfish Etouffee and so much else. Recently Opened New Orleans Restaurants To Try Risotto with Shrimp, Squash, Bacon and Pepitas at MaMou. While on line for those meals, though, attendees could be heard discussing where to go later for dinner.



Nearby on Rampart Street, MaMou , described as a modern French brasserie but one with seriously local overtones, opened in 2022 and definitely requires a reservation for luscious dishes such as Moules Provencale Farcie with fennel sausage and sauce Basquez, Gulf Fish a la Royale with Béarnaise, Bouillon of Garden Vegetables and Risotto with Shrimp, Squash, Bacon and Pepitas. Saint John was previously nearby in the French Quarter but chef Eric Cook recently moved it to the Warehouse District where he’s now serving the mélange of Italian, French, Spanish, African, German .
