A historic building in Tyler has been restored into an apartment complex, with a grand opening set to celebrate its completion. NORF Companies, a New Orleans-based real estate firm, announced the completion of The Wilcox, located on Broadway Avenue in downtown Tyler. Originally operated as the Cooperative Savings and Loan Association Building in 1956 and designed by the world-renowned architect E.

Davis Wilcox, The Wilcox has been transformed into 31 luxury rental apartments. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening will be held at 1 p.m.

Tuesday at the complex located at 230 S. Broadway Ave. The newly revitalized Wilcox showcases its mid-century modern design.

In the repurposed former bank's drive-thru, there is a dedicated common area with activities to promote socializing and community relationships. The building offers six unique, spacious layouts with contemporary finishes, making it an ideal living space. Situated in a prime location, it is within walking distance of the square, which includes local restaurants, bars and shops.

The project marks a major victory for the downtown community, heralding a new era of renewal and revitalization. By transforming the historic Wilcox building, NORF said it is vital to the city's vision of creating a dynamic and trendy space where people will once again want to live, eat, shop and do business. This development not only preserves the area's rich history but also opens up new possibilities for future growth, stimulating the local economy and making downtown a vibrant destination for both residents and visitors.

The Wilcox also represents an important milestone in NORF's dedication to transforming downtown Tyler, reflecting their commitment to preserving cultural appeal and minimizing environmental waste through restoring historic buildings. The Wilcox is one of four projects NORF is redeveloping in the downtown area. "The Wilcox not only meets the rising demand for residential space downtown but also preserves the rich architectural heritage of downtown Tyler.

We're excited to play a major role in the continued progress of downtown Tyler and look forward to the remaining three NORF projects further stimulating the economy downtown," said Ilse Stough, Director of Development for NORF Companies. The six-story building features 26 one-bedroom and five two-bedroom apartments designed with the latest green building standards. It has dedicated parking on site and additional parking in the adjacent lot.

Residential floor plans range from 470 to 900 square feet and start at $1,100. Instrumental in the success of this historic development is the general contractor Scott + Reid, one of Texas' largest privately owned construction firms, and the architect of record, Fitzpatrick Architects, a renowned local firm based in Tyler and an integral part of many of the downtown revitalization projects. The lobby will feature artwork from local Tyler artist Christie Joy.
