THE highly anticipated trailer for the third season of The White Lotus has finally dropped, sending fans into a frenzy. The critically acclaimed drama drew in 10 million viewers per episode with its most recent season, and was named the best TV show of 2022 by Variety. Each season of the hit HBO production stands alone and features a different set of actors.
But every storyline follows a group of rich travellers as they go on holiday - before things take a drastic turn and their seemingly perfect lives start to unravel. The new trailer opens with a suspenseful soundtrack, setting the tone for what promises to be an intense third series. A voiceover from one of the new characters declares, "What happens in Thailand stays in Thailand!" Viewers are treated to glimpses of the stunning new setting; a luxurious resort nestled in the lush landscapes of Thailand.
Some of the filming locations for this new series include the gorgeous destinations of Bangkok, Phuket, and Ko Samui. However, ominous scenes of women looking concerned beside a pool and two men fighting in a boxing ring hint at danger lurking beneath the surface. HBO paired the trailer with a mysterious caption, which read: "New luxuries await you in Thailand".
Although producers have kept the plot of the upcoming series firmly under wraps, director Mike White previously hinted at some of the themes viewers can expect to encounter. He shared: "The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex. "I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality.
"It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus." An official release date has not been announced yet, but the new series is expected to hit screens sometime in 2025. Little is known about the central characters in season three, but the holiday-makers have been described as a patriarch, a corporate executive, an actress, a couple of mothers, a misfit and a yogi.
