WE are spoiled for choice with walking trails across the country – but this Galway trail is a must-visit. The Diamond Hill Loop is located near Letterfrack in County Galway . This magnificent trail in Connemara National Park is very popular for walking, hiking and running .

And furry friends are allowed if kept on a lead. Stunning views of the surrounding hills look out across the Twelve Bens and Kylemore Abbey. The 7.



1-km loop trail takes an average of two hours and 38 minutes to complete. Reaching a height of 1,450 feet, the trail can be a very challenging. But the route can also be shortened by following just one of the upper or lower trails.

The Upper Trail, which is 6km long, takes about two hours to finish. But the Lower Trail, covering 2.8km, is much shorter - taking around 45 minutes.

People with a godlike fitness level can take on the Upper Trail, while others may enjoy the Lower Trail. Little ones have also completed the Lower Trail. The well-marked trail has wooden platform and rock steps.

It’s the perfect spot to appreciate nature or enjoy a picnic with the family . There’s a car park and visitor centre at the start of the route. There’s plenty of attractions nearby including Glassilaun Beach, Clifden Town, The Sky Road, Kylemore Abbey and Leenaun.

Visitors took to alltrails.com to rate the route. One person said: “Superb hike with breath-taking views of the Connemara region.

Three different circuits depending on your level.” Another said: “Very well laid out route. It gets quite steep before reaching the top, but you stay safe.

Don't get discouraged because the view at the top is breath-taking. “The way back down is much quieter, very pleasant in the afternoon when there is sun.” One visitor said: “Fairly easy walk which offers a beautiful 360 degree view of this part of the Connemara National Park.

“We did it at the end of the afternoon, there weren't too many people.” While another added: “Gorgeous little trail. Some stunning views on the way up.

“Very well maintained. Highly recommend if you’re in the area”.
