Around 15 years ago a group of music lovers huddled together inside a building in Hulme with pieces of rented DJ kits and sound equipment. They were attempting to deliver something that had never been done before. Initially started in 2009 as Peace FM, it was to be Greater Manchester’s first community radio station geared towards the city-borough’s African and Caribbean community.
Now named Legacy 90.1 FM, it remains the only station of its kind - and a beacon for many people to not only listen to music but to also gain valuable advice, insights and to give them a voice. Throughout the week, Legacy’s vast line-up is as varied as they come - ranging from shows playing gospel, others showcasing the latest in hip hop, and even discussion sessions with doctors.
Its shows are hosted by the likes of DJ Drizz, DJ Lighta, Gordon West, Natural Mystic and DR C.
