WITH beautiful beaches, exciting boating trips and highs of 30C – this little-known sunspot makes the perfect getaway. Port de Sóller is located in Mallorca in the Balearic Islands. Ryanair currently has flights from Dublin to Palma de Mallorca starting at €28 in September.

The town of Sóller is one of the jewels of the island of Mallorca, with lots to discover for all the family. Sun worshippers can soak up the sun at the 270 metre-long Platja d'en Repic or on the Platja des Traves. Explore the underwater world of Sóller at the PADI dive centre, located at the port.

The Tramuntana mountains, which separate Sóller from the rest of Mallorca, offer breathtaking views with sprawling orange groves. From the marina, jump aboard a yacht for a sailing trip to take in the sights. A popular route along the rugged coastline takes you to Sa Calobra, with a short walk to the stunning Torrent de Pareis.

Or sail to Cala Deià while taking in the spectacular wild coastal cliff scenery along the way. One of the most notable parts of the town's legacy lies in the Sóller Train, inviting passengers to explore the surrounding beauty and the island's imposing natural enclaves. This rail route is one of the most popular excursions on the island, known for the history of the train itself, which has remained the same since its construction in 1912.

In an hour-long journey, the railway travels through a range of Mallorcan landscapes, such as the Camino de Bunyola, the Serra de Tramuntana, and the Serra de Alfàbia. Walkers and hikers will have lots to see on the Serra de Tramuntana's GR221 long-distance path. The ravine of Biniaraix is rated one of the most beautiful hiking routes in Mallorca.

History buffs will have lots to discover, including The Torre Picada watch tower, Museu de la Mar, and the nearby 14th-century Saint Bartholomew church. As an old fishing harbour, it makes a great spot for the best fish and seafood. Top restaurants include Suculenta, Restaurant Randemar, Agapanto and Cap Roig at the Jumeirah Port Sóller Hotel & Spa.
