On April 13, 2023, his bandmate and decades-long friend, Mark Sheehan, died after a short, undisclosed illness. The guitarist was just 46 and his passing happened so suddenly that there was no time to say goodbye. O’Donoghue, who formed The Script with Sheehan and Glen Power in 2007, says he is still reeling from the loss and believes there will always be a part of him that grieves for a loved one who helped make the band one of Ireland’s most successful musical exports.
