Holy Schitt! “Schitt’s Creek” co-creators, stars, and father and son duo Eugene Levy and Dan Levy reunited with Catherine O’Hara and Annie Murphy at the very end of the Emmys 2024 ceremony on Sunday night. Murphy, 37, came on stage to join Eugene, 77, and Dan, 41, for a hilarious bit. “They said the shining star of ‘Schitt’s Creek’ was going to present the final award of the night,” she said.

“There’s been a little confusion, Annie,” Eugene said, as Murphy jokingly told the Levys to move over so she could have her moment in the spotlight. Dan then broke the news to Murphy that O’Hara, 70, would be presenting the award for Outstanding Comedy Series, which went to “Hacks.” Afterwards, the foursome stood on stage together to close out the show.

Sadly, “Schitt’s Creek: The Movie” was not announced at the Emmys 2024 as fans were hoping. The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards stage was a fitting place for the “Schitt’s Creek” reunion. The show set an Emmys record in 2020 when it won seven primetime Emmy awards and nine Emmys in total, the most-ever for a comedy series in a single year at that time (“The Bear” broke that record at the last Emmys ceremony with 10 total wins).

The beloved comedy series’ 2020 wins included some of the Emmys’ most coveted prizes, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Lead Actor (Eugene Levy,) Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (Catherine O’Hara,) Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Annie Murphy,) and Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Dan Levy). “Schitt’s Creek” debuted on Canadian broadcaster CBC in 2015 and officially went off the air in April 2020 after six seasons . Emmys producers gave away the Levys’ surprise slightly in the lead-up to Sunday’s ceremony, revealing that the awards would emphasize nostalgia for fan-favorite TV characters.

“You’re gonna get everything that you want from [Dan and Eugene Levy] in that opening,” producer Jesse Collins told Variety on Thursday. “I want to say the opening segment that they’re going to bring to the show is going to set a great tone.” “This is material that has been developed between them,” Collins added of Dan and Eugene’s Emmys opener.

“They’ve never done this before, and there’s never been a father and son team hosting the Emmys. I think everybody’s going to love it.” Another signal that something “Schitt”-y was brewing was O’Hara being announced as one of the night’s presenters.

Before Sunday, O’Hara said she hoped the original cast would reunite for a “Schitt’s” movie. “I would love to,” she told People in January. “We did a bit of a tour after we finished the show, and it was so much fun.

I’d love to just be with them all again.” “Doing a movie would be wonderful,” she added. “Yeah, I hope it happens.

” “I get asked this all the time,” Dan said that same month while speaking with UK radio station Heart . “You will absolutely know if and when I’m doing a ‘Schitt’s Creek’ movie. “I love the way we ended the show; I feel such pride in the way that we ended the show,” he continued.

“I don’t right now feel the impulse to risk doing anything to that wonderful thing we all made, so I will be the first person to tell you if we are doing a movie or some kind of continuation of the story.” “The ‘Schitt’s Creek’ movie is a big TBD,” he added. Series producer Andrew Barnsley shared Dan’s sentiments in an interview last August but did not confirm that a movie was something he had discussed with Dan and Eugene.

“It’s something that we know there’s demand and interest for it, really. It’s something that I know Dan and Eugene [Levy] are considering all the time, and I think it’s going to be a timing thing,” he told The Messenger. He added, “The fear is: does it tarnish the legacy to go back and revisit them in the way that maybe the ‘Entourage’ movie did?” On more than one occasion, Murphy had signaled she was willing and eager to reprise her role as Alexis Schitt.

“Of course. Come on. Of course I would,” she told Today in June 2023 when asked if she would do a “Schitt’s Creek” movie.

“If you want to start writing strongly worded letters to Daniel [Levy], I encourage it,” she said in an interview with Parade.com . “I miss everyone so much.

So, yeah, fingers crossed.”.
