A fashion brand born in the North East is said to be already attracting attention from stylists and celebrities - just weeks after relaunching. Ony, which is the brainchild of Harvey Singh and Ruhel Uddin from Newcastle city centre , released its new fashion range on June 30, focusing on luxury everyday essentials, including joggers, sweatshirts, hoodies and T-shirts. Harvey and Ruhel, both 31, started their business during the Covid pandemic when Harvey started making face masks from his sofa and selling them as his recruitment business had slowed down.

The face masks went on to be sold by a number of high street retailers and soon he began working on more products. The pair said they were "buzzing" after securing 10,000 sales and receiving interest from stylists for A-list celebrities and athletes, as well as Premier League footballers and boxers.

Harvey said: "We did not expect this in the first month. We were thinking this might be the one or two year point." Looking back on how far the business has come, Harvey added: "You're so busy with everything that you don't tend to look back and see where you started.

But we've put blood, sweat and tears into this, working 15-18 hour days. We've learnt so much over the last few years to get where we are and have built relationships and networked with footballers and celebrities in that time. That feeling is great.

" "It's been quite a journey", Ruhel added. The pair are already planning their next range, which will include trench coats and footwear. And they're in talks with retailers about launching their autumn/winter 24 or spring/summer 25 range in some stores.

Harvey and Ruhel spent almost seven months developing the fabric for the new range and even when they thought they'd mastered the product they decided to pause production because "something wasn't quite right". "If it isn't the highest quality fabric that we've touched then we're not going to expect our customers to wear it. It's got to be something that we love", said Harvey.

But Ruhel explained that finally seeing the final product is such an incredible feeling which is hard to put into words. He added: "It's hard to describe that feeling when you finally get that final product and you see the result of months of hard work. It feels amazing.
