Percy Jackson has returned to The Lord of the Rings franchise with a new animated movie, The War of the Rohirrim. The makers just released the first teaser trailer for the animated film and it has already created quite a stir online. Fans have been in awe of the short clip many calling it epic, similar to the original Lord Of The Rings films.

It is not just the picturisation but also the makers behind it who have majorly contributed to the hype behind the anticipated release. The teaser trailer has been introduced as "a groundbreaking journey back to Middle-earth". It also featured clips from Peter Jackson's movie trilogy LOTR including scenes in Dunharrow and Helm's Deep.

The animated film takes place 200 years before Frodo Baggins set out to destroy the One Ring, and explore the blood-soaked era of the mighty King of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand. The film is also set to explore the origins of the fortress at Helm's Deep which place a big role in the second film of LOTR: Two Towers. The story takes place during the early days of Third Age where men somewhat experience an uneasy peace.

Men were more at war with themselves than other species like Orcs, dwarves or elves. Sauron during this time remained hidden quietly reconsolidating his grip on power while seeking the elusive One Ring. According to reports, the story is drawn from the appendices in the Lord of the Rings novels.

Helm has been mentioned in the appendices along with his two sons, Háma and Haleth. However, the books never mentioned his daughter by her name which intrigued the showrunners. While Hera hasn't been mentioned in Tolkien's writing the film introduces her as a rebellious tomboy.

But myself, and especially screenwriter Phoebe Gittins, were drawn to her. We could feel the weight of being that unnamed daughter, which immediately piqued our interest: Who was she? How did she live?” The trailer also introduces several other characters from the era including Freca, his son Wulf and Hammerhand's family. It begins with Freca proposing an alliance with Hammerhand, "We've come with an offer to strengthen Rohan," he says.

Meanwhile, Freca's son Wulf addresses Hammerhand's daughter Héra, "I will seek your hand in marriage." However, the story isn't expected to take the easy way out, Hera is seen refusing the wedding proposal and so is her father. She says, "Our fathers speak as if I were not even in the room.

I do not want to marry you." Hammerhand and Freca end up in hand-to-hand combat for the throne. Former is heard saying, "You do not sneak an alliance, you sneak a throne," before he kills Freca.

Wulf then vows to take down Rohan and its king. The trailer sets up the story with Wulf saying, "You will pay for this with your life." However, it is just the beginning of the trailer which then reveals Hera on her journey to reclaim her home and her land.

I am cautiously optimistic about the LOTR: The War of the Rohirrim anime. I am hoping it does a better job with the appendices stuff than Rings of Power did. But this scene at least has me excited enough to watch it.

The film will credit Jackson and his wife Fran Walsh as executive producers of the project. Meanwhile, it is set to be directed by Ghost in the Shell's Kenji Kamiyama and will see the voice talents of Laurence Ubong Williams, Shaun Dooley.

Since it is set some 200 years before the events of LOTR, there aren't any connecting characters but the films will build the connection with the help of a narrator. Miranda Otto who was seen as Éowyn will be narrating the events of the film from the future. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will see a theatrical release on December 13, 2014.
