The Last of Us season 2's first footage was recently releases by the makers. The few-second clip already has fans excited for what's to come. Meanwhile, the gamers have been hinting at an emotionally devastating season 2.

The show follows Joel in a post-apocalyptic world as a mercenary who was tasked to deliver a package safely to save humanity. However, on coming in contact with the package, he discovers that he has been asking to safely bring a girl immune to the virus to an alleged haven. Over the course of season 1, Joel and Ellie travel through the country to bring her to the hospital in hopes of saving the world.

As they spend more time together Joel begins to look at her as his daughter. But when things don't go as planned Joel takes her to human sanctuary, where again Ellie is put in danger. To make sure his step-in daughter is saved Joel ends up having to make the wrong choices.

Season 2 will possibly see him deal with the consequences. The first footage of the show also revealed a key detail from the games which has fans convinced season 2 will also do justice to its source material. The clip also showed Ellie's iconic hand tattoo as well, giving a hint at her new arc and a growing transition.

While the reasons, why and how Ellie got the tattoo are not part of the games, the show known for filling the gaps will finally have the details missing from the source material. Ellie’s tattoo in The Last of Us season 2. — The Last of Us Source (@TLOUSource) According to the games, Ellie's ex-girlfriend Cat, is a tattooist in Jackson who designed Ellie's fern and moth tattoo.

The piece covers most of Ellie's right forearm which has bite marks. Usually in The Last Of Us, if anyone is spotted with a bite mark they are killed to stop the virus from spreading. But since Ellie is immune, she has more reasons to hide it.

The tattoo covers most of her forearms eliminating the need to use bandages of full sleeve shirts to hide it. The tattoos also have a significant meaning in the games other than being designed by Cat. As the sequel isn't told in a linear timeline, the tattoo reveals when the flashbacks are taking place by showing the different stages of her tattoo's completion.

The tattoo's symbolism also hints at a new beginning for Ellie. Ferns are depicted as a new life and beginnings, or incase of Ellie good luck, and protection as well. Meanwhile, the Moth in her tattoo could also be symbolic of transformations and help her blend in with the others.
