The Aussie star, 21, whose real name is Charlton Howard, was 14 years old when he recorded his first EP and then skyrocketed to fame with his 2021 hit Stay alongside Justin Bieber . Now, Laroi has detailed what it was really like being given so much 'responsibility' at such a young age, admitting it made him feel a lot older than he actually is.
'I've felt older for a long time, but this year, more than any other year, I'm appreciating how 'young' I am,' he confessed to Stellar Magazine this week. 'I do have a lot of life responsibility, I do have all this crazy, real, grown-up stuff. A lot of people my age are going to uni or college.
I don't want to feel a need to grow up too quickly.' After feeling pressure to grow up quickly, Laroi is now shifting gears, attempting to reconnect with the youth he feels he missed out on during his meteoric rise to fame. 'I spent a lot of my teenage years thinking I had to be grown up, you know what I mean? I'm trying to take time to appreciate how young I am before it's gone.
