Jan Fox: The Alchemist of Encaustic Art Fox's work is a fiery blend of beeswax, tree resin and pigments, resulting in mesmerizing encaustic paintings. Encaustic, derived from the Greek word meaning "to burn in," involves a process where melted beeswax mixed with damar resin and pigments is applied to a panel and fused with a torch.
The method embraces a certain level of chaos, creating pieces that are as splendid as they are unpredictable. Whether the final surface is textured or smooth as glass, Fox's creations are a testament to the beauty found in artistic unpredictability. Jan Garvin: The Reawakened Creative Spirit Garvin's journey as an artist has come full circle.
Introduced to art at a young age, she set aside her passion for a more conventional career. Now semi-retired, she has rekindled her love for creating, focusing on mixed media. Garvin excels in piecing together patterns, textures and colors to craft unique compositions.
Drawing inspiration from everyday surroundings like sidewalk cracks to hotel wallpaper, her work celebrates the beauty found in the unexpected, encouraging viewers to look beyond the surface, revealing sumptuous surprises and a deeper level of appreciation. Jan Lang: Nature's Bold Interpreter Lang's artistic journey began in an unexpected place: the soil labs of the United States Department of Agriculture. This Nebraska-based, self-taught painter draws inspiration from her scientific background.
Lang's floral-themed pieces are known for their eye-catching colors and bold designs, which reflect her deep connection to the natural world. Her accolades include numerous commissions, a 12-piece multi-media collection for the federal government, and features in the Lincoln Journal Star and on Nebraska Public Radio. "The Jan Collective" will be displayed from July 31-Sept.
