Wednesday, August 28, 2024 The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is set to bring a significant improvement to the train ticket booking process, offering much-needed relief to passengers. Soon, travelers will no longer have to endure long wait times when booking their train tickets. In a bid to enhance the overall customer experience, IRCTC has announced plans to ramp up its ticketing capacity, ensuring passengers can book tickets quickly and efficiently without facing extended waiting periods.

Reports indicate that this capacity enhancement initiative is already underway, with a targeted completion date of March 2025. Once the process is finalized, train passengers will enjoy a seamless online ticket booking experience, with transactions being processed immediately upon accessing the IRCTC website. This upgrade will drastically reduce the time it takes for tickets to be issued, providing a smoother and more reliable service for commuters.

One of the primary goals of this initiative is to prevent issues where passengers’ money is deducted without tickets being issued, a problem that has been attributed to the system’s current capacity limitations. By increasing the ticketing capacity, IRCTC aims to better handle the high volume of online ticket bookings and eliminate these frustrating glitches. Currently, more than 900,000 train tickets are booked online each day, including those booked directly by passengers and through agents, with over two crore passengers traveling by train daily.

Recognizing the growing demand, the Indian Railways decided last year to upgrade the ticket booking capacity from 25,000 to 225,000 per minute. This enhancement will not only improve the efficiency of the passenger reservation system but also provide a much-needed boost to the overall customer satisfaction of rail services. The IRCTC’s efforts to expand its ticketing capacity mark a significant step towards improving the travel experience for millions of passengers across India, making train travel more convenient and accessible for everyone.
