A striking £3.7m skyscraper planned for Dubai that will be 70 metres taller than The Shard is set to be the second skinniest building in the world. The Muraba Veil building will be a whopping 380 metres high but only 22.
5 metres wide, meaning every flat will span over the whole building, offering residents panoramic views in both directions It will only be wider than the 18m-wide and world’s thinnest skyscraper, Steinway Tower in New York. The skinny tower will be in a prime spot between Jumeirah and Downtown, overlooking the Dubai Water Canal and the Sheikh Zayed Road, one of Dubai's busiest roads. According to the plans of UAE-based developer Muraba, there will be 131 bedroom flats spread over 73 stories.
Those who want to live in the luxurious flats will need to have deep pockets, as prices start at £3.8 million (18 million dirhams). Developers aim for a super lux feel, with greenery and water everywhere and even an ‘underground oasis’.
Spanish architecture firm RCR Arquitectes, behind the design, has planned a ‘veil’ to cover the facade, symbolising its first ‘layer’. The porous reflective mesh of stainless steel wrapping will cover the whole building. It will change how it looks in different light conditions, providing shade and letting natural light filter in, cooling it naturally.
