TAKE a look at the magnificent white sandy beach dubbed the 'Maldives' of Ireland with crystal-blue water and incredible views. Silver Strand Beach in Co Mayo is the ideal place to soak up the sun. The picturesque beach was awarded a Green Coast Award for its clean environment and superb water quality.

It measures just under 500 metres and boasts beautiful views of the coastline and the green mountains. And there are several islands that can be seen off in the distance, including the popular Inishbofin and Inishturk islands. Silver Strand is also known for its beautiful sunsets, providing an opportunity for swimmers to soak in the glorious orange and pink skies.

It is the ideal spot for family days out, long walks, water sports and swimming. There are several water sports companies that provide activities for water sports lovers, such as kayaking, surfing and paddling boarding. There is a fabulous swim spot at the edge of the beach, featuring small rock pools with crystal-blue water.

It is quite shallow and can be entered by walking from the shore or diving into the deep areas. It provides the perfect pool for all swimmers to soak in and relax during heatwaves with views that give a Maldives vibe. To access the beach, there is a single track that has plenty of lay-bys and is well-surfaced.

The car park is decent-sized and offers public toilets, providing a space for people to change before their swim. People are urged to arrive as early as possible as it gets busy during the peak season and sunny days. Due to the beach being isolated, there are no lifeguards on duty so extra care is needed in the water.

Children should never enter the water without being supervised by an adult. Near the beach, there is a fabulous site called The Lost Valley, and it's a must-visit. It's famous for being one of the most unique valleys in Europe and it boasts scenic lakes, waterfalls and stunning natural woodlands.

A few minutes' drive from the beach, there is a gorgeous heritage town of Westport that sits at the foot of Croagh Patrick, a destination for many barefoot pilgrims every year. The town boasts gorgeous shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs, making it a fabulous pit stop after your lovely swim at the beach..
