Friday, November 29, 2024 The Haramain High-Speed Railway , connecting Mecca and Medina, celebrated a significant milestone in early November, surpassing 20 million passengers since its commercial launch in October 2018. Operated by a consortium that includes Renfe, this achievement underscores the railway’s vital role in providing efficient and sustainable transportation between the two holy cities. In 2024, the Haramain High-Speed Railway solidified its reputation as a leading mode of transport in the region, with October seeing record-breaking numbers.
The line carried 914,421 passengers across 2,404 commercial services during the month, maintaining an impressive punctuality rate of 96.1% year-to-date. To commemorate the 20 million-passenger achievement, Renfe hosted a special celebration during the Saudi Rail 2024 trade fair.
The event honored the dedication of Saudi workers who have been instrumental in the project’s success. Key attendees included Raül Blanco, Chairman of Renfe, and Armandino Fombella, Director of the Haramain project and Vice-President of the Spanish Consortium for the Mecca-Medina High-Speed Line.
