Entering from the A515 Ashbourne to Buxton Road, you're welcomed by a grand avenue of lime trees leading to picturesque cottages set against expansive lawns, reports Derbyshire Live . Among Tissington's standout independent venues is Herbert's Fine English Tearooms, offering a perfect setting for a leisurely meet-up. Its unique decor and collection of tableware are sure to delight those visiting for the first time.

Tissington, a well-known tourist destination, is famous for its annual well dressing event that takes place on Ascension Day. This tradition is one of the earliest in the Peak District each year, drawing an estimated 50,000 visitors. Besides the well-dressing, Tissington has been the home of the FitzHerbert family for more than 400 years.

Their Jacobean residence, Tissington Hall, built in 1609, is the centrepiece of the village. St Mary's Church, which overlooks the village, boasts a Norman tower and monumental memorials dedicated to the FitzHerbert family. The hall opens to the public on selected days from April through August, with group tours available by prior arrangement.

The picturesque village is entirely managed by the Tissington Hall estate, giving it the unique status of a private village. The Tissington Trail, popular among walkers, cyclists, and horse riders, runs past the village, which offers parking and a picnic site. The trail follows the old Buxton to Ashbourne railway line , offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

The Limestone Way footpath cuts through Tissington, providing excellent routes for ramblers. However, it's worth noting that despite its many attractions, the village may disappoint pub enthusiasts as it lacks a local watering hole. Tissington is approximately a 50-minute to an hour's drive from Nottingham via the A52 Brian Clough Way.
