Friday, July 19, 2024 The Family Reunion, renowned as the nation’s premier culinary celebration of diversity and excellence, has unveiled its exciting lineup for the upcoming event next month. Set to take place from August 15-18, this sold-out gathering will be led by top culinary talents including Nyesha Arrington, Mashama Bailey, Rodney Scott, Carla Hall, Gregory Gourdet, Tavel Bristol-Joseph, Alexander Smalls, and more. For 2024, The Family Reunion introduces a new philanthropic focus, supporting the Culinary Institute of America, alma mater of Chef Kwame Onwuachi.

This year also sees expanded sponsorship from esteemed brands like Appleton Estate, Wells Fargo, Amazon, Lexus, United Airlines, and the Virginia Tourism Corporation. Presented in collaboration with Sheila Johnson’s Salamander Collection and FOOD & WINE, the multi-day event promises a fusion of culinary exploration and cultural celebration. Highlights include panel discussions, cooking demonstrations, recreational activities, daily communal lunches, lively evening parties, and late-night gatherings.



Since its inception in 2021, The Family Reunion has quickly become a must-attend event, drawing approximately 1,000 guests daily. New for 2024, Appleton Estate will immerse attendees in Jamaican heritage through special programming highlighting rum’s cultural significance. Wells Fargo will honor culinary legends with a dedicated social media campaign, while United Airlines and the Virginia Tourism Corporation will kick off festivities with an opening night cookout featuring renowned pitmasters.

Throughout the event, guests can enjoy a variety of experiences such as the Family-Style Lunch presented by Amazon, showcasing acclaimed restaurants and chefs, including previews from Dōgon, Chef Kwame Onwuachi’s upcoming D.C. restaurant.

Educational sessions will explore topics like the legacy of rice in America, presented by FOOD & WINE, featuring insights from culinary luminaries. Recreational activities like ziplining and the beloved Chopped-style competition will return, complemented by a Saturday night Block Party and surprise musical performances. The event concludes on a high note with an inspiring Sunday Service featuring a Gospel Choir.

Held at Sheila Johnson’s luxurious Salamander Middleburg resort, recognized with Forbes Five-Star ratings, the celebration spans across 340 scenic acres, including the Culinary Garden and Library. Sheila Johnson, the visionary behind Salamander Collection and co-founder of Black Entertainment Television, brings her unparalleled hospitality expertise to The Family Reunion. Together with Chef Kwame Onwuachi, they are not only enriching the culinary landscape but also preparing the next generation of hospitality leaders.

Their collaboration extends to the upcoming Dōgon restaurant at Salamander’s Washington D.C. location, adding another layer of excitement to this year’s event.
