Monday, August 19, 2024 On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, the Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) conducted a site inspection of the newly inaugurated Crowne Plaza Penang Straits City, an IHG Hotel. It is a significant development in Penang’s hospitality sector and as a premier destination for business events and tourism. The inspection was led by the General Manager of the hotel, Mr.

Rizwan Izham Zain, who warmly welcomed the PCEB team. This visit marks a significant development in Penang’s hospitality sector, reflecting the region’s ongoing commitment to establishing itself as a premier destination for business events and tourism. Strategically located in the heart of Butterworth’s prime business district, the Crowne Plaza Penang Straits City is a valuable addition to Penang’s hospitality infrastructure.

The hotel, which officially opened earlier this month, offers a blend of comfort and breathtaking views of the Penang Strait, making it an attractive option for both business and leisure travelers. During the site inspection, the PCEB team toured the hotel’s facilities, with a particular focus on its meeting and event spaces. The highlight of these spaces is the Straits Ballroom, a 653-square-meter venue capable of hosting up to 768 guests in a theatre-style setup or 800 attendees for cocktail events.

The ballroom can be divided into two equal sections, each measuring 326 square meters, providing flexibility for various event sizes and formats. In addition to the grand ballroom, the hotel features four well-appointed meeting rooms—Butterworth 1 and 2, and Bagan 1 and 2—each accommodating between 20 to 40 participants depending on the seating arrangement. These meeting facilities significantly enhance Penang’s capacity to host a wide range of events, from intimate board meetings to large conferences.

The hotel also offers a 24-hour business and meeting center on the 9th floor, ensuring round-the-clock support for business travelers and event organizers. The Crowne Plaza Penang Straits City also impresses with its 343 luxurious guest rooms, an innovative sky lobby on the 8th floor, and a 23rd-floor pool that offers panoramic views of the city and sea. These amenities, coupled with the hotel’s Pan Asian restaurant, are designed to provide comprehensive support for both event delegates and tourists.

Additionally, the hotel’s proximity to Penang Sentral, just a four-minute drive away, enhances its accessibility, with convenient connections via taxi, train, or ferry. The Crowne Plaza Penang Straits City stands as a testament to Penang’s progress in the hospitality sector, offering world-class facilities that will undoubtedly bolster the state’s reputation as a top-tier destination for both business and leisure travelers..
