For the past 48 years, the town of Fairmount has celebrated its own hometown celebrity in grand fashion. The James Dean Festival celebrates the life and legacy of James Dean, who was born in Marion and grew up in Fairmount before achieving stardom. This year’s festival begins Friday, Sept.
27 and ends Sunday, Sept. 29. Fairmount has two main festivities: The James Dean Festival, held in downtown Fairmount; and the James Dean Run, a car show held at Play Acres Park in Fairmount.
