In his 2024 tell-all memoir, One Sinha Lifetime : Comedy, disaster and one man's quest for happiness, the TV quizzer said the penny "finally dropped" about his condition when he googled one of his symptoms. Paul, 54, who was diagnosed with the condition in 2019, said in his book that he was in a taxi travelling to a hotel when he made the devastating discovery before immediately telling his fiancé the news.

The Chase star wrote: "In the taxi to the hotel, I impulsively decided to do something that I should have done many months ago. function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.

'I've got Parkinson's." The star, who is known as The Sinnerman on ITV's The Chase, opened up in the book about how the disease affected his health and the symptoms he was unable to hide from his family and friends. Paul said that he felt particularly exhausted after one performance in Wellington before opening up on the medication he was prescribed for the condition, as well as the side effects.

He wrote: "After my last gig, a lot of fans waited patiently for a selfie. I felt shattered. Broken.

And, for the first time in my career, not really ready for the general public." Despite his illness, Paul continued to enjoy great success in his career but admitted the "nagging voices" were growing even louder.

He wrote: "After years of going to Edinburgh, where every ticket sale was hard-earned, it was a new experience to be a hot-ticket. My Auckland run sold out so quickly, I was able to put on an extra show..

"This was by far the largest audience to whom I'd ever performed a full-length solo show. What with Countdown, I'd enjoyed two bucket-list experiences in quick succession." The disease began to impact on his preparations before a gig as he said getting dressed began to take longer and longer. Eventually, Paul fell flat on his face in the street as he walked back to his hotel after the Auckland gala but managed to dismiss it as a "drunken incident" to his friends. Paul was then invited to play at a piano bar by a New Zealand comic after hearing positive reviews from a comedian in 2004.

He wrote: "I had been quite good. Then. Fifteen years later the fingers on my right hand started to stiffen.

"When I turned up to the piano bar and tried to play my fingers obstinately refused to do what they were told. Physically, I was falling apart." Paul remains optimistic, however, revealing on BBC Breakfast last month that he's a "happy man", providing his "brain functions" and he can still fulfil his dreams of being a stand-up comedian and quizzer.
