The Chase star Shaun Wallace has revealed he “can’t run anymore” after receiving a devastating health blow. The 64-year-old used to run at least one mile a day and in 2016 he took on the London Marathon. The iconic run took Shaun six hours and 18 minutes, something he described as “one of the biggest achievements of my life”.

Now, on the The Hearing podcast, Shaun has revealed his running ambition suffered a big blow when doctors told him he had to stop his fitness routine. It saw the trained barrister having to alter his daily workout routine. Speaking to host Yasmin Sheikh, he explained: “I train every single morning to keep myself fit and ready for the day.

I can’t run anymore. I used to run a mile a day but because I have problems with my knees now, I just use the outdoor gym and have a rowing machine.” Shaun, known as The Dark Destroyer on The Chase, once revealed he does 2,000 sit-ups a day to stay in shape.

He also shared the devastating reason why he dedicates so much time to his fitness. "Every morning when I wake up I do 2,000 sit ups because my mum suffers from dementia,” he said on The Chaser's Road Trip: Trains, Brains and Automobiles. "My dad sadly died from motor neurone disease and it really saddened me to see them physically degenerate.

"Whilst I know I can’t delay the inevitable I know I can postpone it by keeping myself physically and mentally sharp.” During the 2021 show, Shaun is seen reciting past Kings and Queens of England while working out, reciting the year each one took to the throne. It’s a vigorous routine that allowed him to keep physically fit and sharp enough to take on even the most challenging contestants.

Shaun’s dad Linford Wallace died in March 2014, after suffering from motor neurone disease during his final year. Linford moved to the UK from Jamaica in 1956. Shaun, who still works as a barrister alongside his TV work, first came to prominence on the quiz scene when he won Mastermind in 2004.

He appeared on Are You an Egghead?, The Weakest Link, and Fifteen to One before joining The Chase in 2009. Follow Mirror Celebs on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram , Twitter , Facebook , YouTube and Threads ..
