My sister has been begging me to go try Bayside Bistro for months now. But here's the thing: she's never eaten there. She doesn't even live in the Quad-Cities.
She just had a hunch, and apparently it was a good one. About six months ago, we held a poll for readers to vote on which restaurant I write about for QC Restaurant Week. Bayside Bistro was one of the candidates, and my sister (a loyal reader of this column, despite not being a local patron) voted for it and followed the results closely.
Even after it came up just a tad short in the poll, she stayed in my ear. I call her on the way home from work relatively often. There have been a few of these exchanges: She's relentless.
I'm convinced they have her on payroll. I even made plans to stop at the lunch spot once to appease her, but it was on a Monday when they're closed. But last week, I finally followed through and ate some lunch at the Rock Island seafood joint.
In doing so, I made both my sister and my stomach happy. I couldn't go to a restaurant that specializes in Cajun dishes and seafood and get a Po'Boy. The only issue was figuring out which Po'Boy to get.
Bayside Bistro offers quite a few options. In just the Po'Boy section of their menu, there are crab cake, fried oyster, fried shrimp and sautèed shrimp options. You can also try the crunchy mix, which combines the shrimp and oyster.
