Alas, it’s September. New York Fashion Week kicked off over the weekend, signalled by an extravagant off-calendar start that was courtesy of Ralph Lauren. Show-goers in the vein of famous faces like Krystal Jung , Nara Smith, Joey Smith and more were ferried—via seaplanes and helicopters, no less—out to the dreamlike Hamptons for the brand’s spring/summer 2025 reveal, which presented over a staggering hundred looks.
All eyes were on Singapore-born Grace Ling next, as she staged her ‘Neanderthal’ collection against a sensual, surrealist vision. What followed was a flurry of runway drama, as Alex Consani opened with a theatrically stunning metallic breastplate gown. The show wrapped up on a high, with a finale piece that pushed the needle further—an entirely 3D-printed metal dress fashioned after a bird’s nest.
In another enigmatic turn, Off White presented on day three, after having foregone their usual slot in Paris Fashion Week. Tracksuits and hoodies were transformed into razor-tailored, bodycon-charged and skin-baring styles, which designer Ib Kamara fused to mimic a New York-bound, modern global traveller’s wardrobe. To cap off the day, there was Sandy Liang and Tommy Hilfiger, who delivered on secret agent-inspired style influences and preppy, nautical looks respectively.
As the calendar nudges us forward, we eagerly await Ronald van der Kemp’s transportation of his Euro sensibilities to the Big Apple, along with fan-favourite visitors like Swedish quiet luxury label Toteme and Budapest-based Nanushka. There’s also much to anticipate from the region’s own heritage house Coach, whose recent relaunch of the Brooklyn Bag left It girls strutting down to their boutiques for a cop and feel. Out on the streets, temperatures have barely dipped, but the most fashionable have stowed away their minis for maxi variations and brat-summer tank tops for structured co-ords.
