It’s official: you can’t get enough of Japan . This is the second year in a row that it has taken first place, thanks to a Shibuya Scramble-style, post-pandemic stampede to reach this fascinating country. It scored reassuringly high marks for safety (as did Switzerland, though be careful with that army knife) but, far more importantly, it was your favourite for things to do and see and culture – which covers everything from cherry blossom season to the newly opened Ghibli Park and the coastal Fukui prefecture, now easily accessible by bullet train from Tokyo.
It was culture, too, that drew you to Vietnam , Thailand and Costa Rica (and, closer to home, Ireland ), while Mexico ’s chilli-spiked tamales and tacos gave it high marks for food, which Italy and Thailand also earned..
