W hether for sitting, relaxing or gaming, beanbags are back with a bang. Initially fashionable in the Sixties and Seventies — when they characterised a shift towards more casual furniture, and tapped into the hippy counterculture — they have once again come to the fore. Indeed, they made an appearance on the catwalk of the childhood-themed Bottega Veneta spring show at Milan Fashion Week in the form of animal-inspired designs.

Appropriately named The Ark, the range spans no less than 15 species, from rabbits and chickens to horses and whales. (Available in prices that mean you will need to sit down ). Claire Sa, director of the architectural and interior design company De Rosee Sa, which offers a raft of bespoke styles, sings their virtues: “Beanbags are a fun, practical and comfortable piece of furniture that can be easily moved around a room.

We always custom-design our own beanbags and use a variety of fabrics and shapes.”.
