Gearing up to host The British Masters later this month (28 August—1 September 2024), it is in the midst of a £80m development which will elevate its status further as a premier golf destination. As a result, it will also expand its room quota by 50%, gearing up from a 300-room property to become a 600-key hotel.

Its nature-inspired interior design has been influenced by the verdant hues of the golf course outside, with a colour palette dominated by soft sage and gold, enhanced with metallic accents and gold lighting.

The expansive floor to ceiling windows will flood the space with natural light and give a visual link to the outdoors, providing panoramic views of one of the country’s most iconic golf courses. The project will also see the opening of a new Leisure Club, which will boast a spacious pool with family friendly slide, gym space, multipurpose sports area, and four glass-fronted studios overlooking the resort’s 550 acre estate. Each morning, groups of golfers throng around the lobby, which is illuminated by a hanging chandelier crafted from metal and glass golf clubs, and has walls lined with monochrome portraits of famous sportsmen and women who have played here. No doubt keen to get out on to one of the Belfry’s three challenging courses, the golfing fraternity bring a buzzy vibe to the hotel’s public spaces, which includes the central, circular Brabazon Bar (check out the gin-themed cocktail list that is crafted with the hotel’s own-brand ‘1960 Gin’.

Yet, while the resort is known for its sporting focus, it also has an eye on guests looking for other types of UK stays.

When it comes to wellness, for instance, there is a dedicated spa with pool and an extensive thermal suite, where those in search of some ‘me-time’ can book in for Dermalogica and ESPA treatments, and a relaxing signature 60-minute fire and ice experience (using the spa’s wide-ranging sauna, steam and cold facilities). The rooms are family-friendly and spacious in size. (Credit: The Belfry) function loadConnatixScript(document) { if (!window.

On check in, there is a mini sweet shop for kids to dip into, and a map given out to follow a woodland nature trail, which takes little ones past bug and bee ‘hotels’, a hedgehog ‘house’, wigwam and play den. A zip wire, balance beams and tree house means they can connect with the outdoors, while mini golf, foot golf and go karts offer plenty of activities to keep them busy. Each day, there’s also a programme of air rifle shooting, archery and a movie showings to further keep kids entertained.

As well as an adventure playground in the grounds, older children can also improve their golfing skills at the driving range which has Top Racer technology. Book one of the suites for a luxury stay. (Credit: The Belfry) Found close to some of the UK’s most popular family attractions, The Belfry can also arrange tickets for a number of venues, such as Twycross Zoo and Cadbury World, all of which are just a short drive away.

Drayton Manor Resort is also a good option, with over 50 rides and attractions, including Europe's only Thomas Land and a 15-acre zoo. New for this summer is the new Gold Rush rollercoaster found in a Wild West-themed area. The Ryder Grill.

(Credit: The Belfry) To refuel, there are hearty buffet breakfasts, pizzas at the Italian Roccas and afternoon tea in the Brabazon Bar. The culinary centrepiece is The Ryder Grill which suits all ages, with a child-friendly buffet option or an a la carte menu, which sees head chef Robert Bates conjure up an inventive Mediterranean offering: from crispy Marinated King Prawns and Courgette Spelt and Cumin Fritters to Chateaubriand and Lemon and Butter Poached Lobster. Save room for desserts, which include a standout Valrhona Chocolate Marquise and White Peach and Raspberry Macaroon.

Sam's Club House offered a relaxed dining option for sports fans. (Credit: The Belfry) Sam’s Club House, on the other hand, leans into The Belfry’s sporting heritage, with its relaxed sports-bar feel. Those who have been golfing all day might opt for a double-stacked burgers and loaded fries, but the menu caters for all, with healthy wraps and salads also on offer.

Flatbreads—spiked with pulled beef or prosciutto—buddah bowls and calamari strips are among the highlights. For sunny evenings, head for the terrace which has views across the PGA course. Soak it up: it’s a place that has nailed its ‘A’ game.
