Kasos is home to around 1,200 people (Image: Getti Images) Kasos in Greece is the southernmost island of the Dodecanese group. This island is off the beaten path, allowing those who venture there to enjoy a holiday far from the crowds that can be found elsewhere in Greece, including Santorini or Mykonos. Its history, much of which is shared with the nearby island of Crete, is rich and the Kasos boasts many significant archaeological sites.

The island's first inhabitants were the Phoenicians. The famous ancient Greek poet Homer mentioned the island in the Iliad, stating it held a key role in the legendary Trojan War. Today, the island has a small population of around 1,200 people.

. Beautiful Greek island rammed with tourists that's now begging for travellers Kasos’ natural beauty and traditional Greek style are its main characteristics, alongside its beautiful beaches. If you’re looking for large hotels and busy nightlife, you won’t find that here.

Instead, you’ll be able to have a peaceful and tranquil holiday which is becoming more and more difficult to find as issues linked to overtourism spread. The island can be reached in several ways. You can travel by boat from Piraeus, the port of Athens, or leave by boat from Crete.

Alternatively, you can take a plane to the small local airport via another Greek location. Many visitors choose to fly to Rhodes or Karpathos and then take a boat to Kasos. As one of Greece’s most untouched islands, this is definitely a place you should add to your travel bucket list.

Located a short boat trip away from the island you’ll also find Armathia which is another small and authentic place you could add to your list of things to see while you are there. One visitor on Tripadvisor said: “We travelled from Kasos by a small boat and after 25 minutes we saw one of the best sandy beaches of Greece.

Armathia is a real treasure, a very small remote island which is sometimes difficult to reach due to winds and waves. We found this to be one of the best sandy beaches of the Aegean Sea. If you spend time in Karpathos or Kasos, don’t forget to visit Armathia beach.
